Why the Relief Was Needed
In the past year, the price of domestic LPG cylinders had crossed ₹900 in many parts of India, which became a big concern for ordinary families. Even with the central government subsidy of ₹300 announced earlier for Ujjwala users, many families were finding it hard to afford regular refills.
The festival season often brings extra expenses sweets, clothes, decorations, and travel. The free LPG cylinder will help families save nearly ₹900 to ₹1,000 this month, allowing them to use that money for other Diwali needs.

How Beneficiaries Will Get the Free Cylinder
There is no need for a separate application. The scheme will automatically apply to all Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries who already have an active LPG connection in UP.
When a beneficiary books their next refill through their gas agency or online app, the payment will first be deducted as usual but the government will later refund the entire amount directly to the customer’s bank account linked to their Ujjwala ID.
Officials have clarified that only one free cylinder will be provided under this Diwali offer. However, discussions are underway to possibly extend similar benefits again before Holi 2026, depending on budget and public feedback.

The Ujjwala scheme, launched in 2016, has already provided over 9 crore free LPG connections across India.
Uttar Pradesh alone has more than 1.7 crore beneficiaries, making it the largest state under this scheme. The state government has been focusing on ensuring that these connections remain active through refill subsidies and awareness drives.
