2025 Diwali LPG Price Relief Announced: Free Cylinder for Ujjwala Beneficiaries in UP

The festival of lights, Diwali, has always been a time for joy, togetherness, and good news and this year, the government has added one more reason for millions of families to celebrate.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major Diwali relief under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) offering one free LPG cylinder to all eligible Ujjwala beneficiaries.

This move comes right before the festive season, aiming to ease the financial pressure on poor and middle-class families struggling with high cooking gas prices.

Big Diwali Gift for Ujjwala Families

Under this new Diwali announcement, women holding Ujjwala gas connections in Uttar Pradesh will receive one free LPG cylinder directly credited to their accounts.

The government will bear the full cost of the refill, ensuring that families can cook their Diwali feast without worrying about rising LPG prices.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called it a “Diwali Dhamaka” for every poor household, especially women in rural areas who depend on LPG for daily cooking.

The decision reflects the government’s commitment to providing relief to those most affected by inflation and increasing fuel costs.

Why the Relief Was Needed

In the past year, the price of domestic LPG cylinders had crossed ₹900 in many parts of India, which became a big concern for ordinary families. Even with the central government subsidy of ₹300 announced earlier for Ujjwala users, many families were finding it hard to afford regular refills.

The festival season often brings extra expenses sweets, clothes, decorations, and travel. The free LPG cylinder will help families save nearly ₹900 to ₹1,000 this month, allowing them to use that money for other Diwali needs.

This small yet powerful gesture is expected to bring real happiness to millions of kitchens across Uttar Pradesh.

How Beneficiaries Will Get the Free Cylinder

There is no need for a separate application. The scheme will automatically apply to all Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries who already have an active LPG connection in UP.

When a beneficiary books their next refill through their gas agency or online app, the payment will first be deducted as usual but the government will later refund the entire amount directly to the customer’s bank account linked to their Ujjwala ID.

Officials have clarified that only one free cylinder will be provided under this Diwali offer. However, discussions are underway to possibly extend similar benefits again before Holi 2026, depending on budget and public feedback.

A Symbolic Gesture with Real Impact

For many urban families, an LPG refill might seem routine, but for rural women who once depended on firewood or kerosene, a gas cylinder is a symbol of dignity, health, and time-saving convenience. The Diwali relief, therefore, is not just an economic move but also a social one.

Women like Sunita Devi from Gorakhpur say this is a “real Diwali gift” that matters more than any new clothes or lights. “Pichle do mahine se cylinder lena mushkil ho gaya tha. Ab ek free mil raha hai toh festival sahi lag raha hai,” she shared with a smile.

Government’s Broader Plan for Affordable Energy

The Ujjwala scheme, launched in 2016, has already provided over 9 crore free LPG connections across India.

Uttar Pradesh alone has more than 1.7 crore beneficiaries, making it the largest state under this scheme. The state government has been focusing on ensuring that these connections remain active through refill subsidies and awareness drives.

By offering free cylinders during festivals, the government hopes to encourage regular use of LPG and reduce dependence on traditional fuels that cause smoke-related diseases. It also shows the administration’s intention to stand with the poor at a time when global energy prices remain uncertain.

A Bright Diwali for Every Home

This year’s Diwali is set to shine a little brighter in Uttar Pradesh. With diyas lit in every corner and the smell of homemade sweets filling the air, the free LPG cylinder scheme ensures that no kitchen stays cold during the celebrations.

While critics may call it a political move, for families struggling to make ends meet, this relief is nothing short of a blessing.

It’s a reminder that true celebration lies in sharing and this time, the government has chosen to share joy in the most meaningful way: by filling every kitchen with warmth and light.

So, as the nation gears up for Diwali 2025, the announcement brings a clear message happiness begins at home, and this year, it starts with a full gas cylinder and a smiling family ready to celebrate together.
